Secretary of Commerce Appoints Lisa A. Dunner to Serve As A Member of the Prestigious Trademark Public Advisory Committee

Washington, D.C. — Lisa A. Dunner has been appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to serve a three-year term, effective December 1, 2015, as a member of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Trademark Public Advisory Committee (TPAC).

The purpose of TPAC (and its patent counterpart PPAC) is to review the policies, goals, performance, budget, and user fees of the USPTO, and to advise the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO on these matters. Each PAC includes nine voting members who are appointed by, and serve at the pleasure of, the Secretary of Commerce.

The criteria for being chosen as a member of the PACs are individuals who can represent the interests of diverse users of the USPTO; individuals who can represent small and large entity applicants; and individuals who have a substantial background and achievement in intellectual property, finance, management, labor relations, science, technology and office automation.

“I am honored and excited to be selected to work among such an accomplished group of people, and I look forward to participating in the USPTO’s efforts to improve its trademark systems and processes,” said Ms. Dunner.

Ms. Dunner is immediate past chair of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law (ABA IPL) and founder of Dunner Law PLLC, a boutique law firm located in Washington, D.C. Dunner Law is also certified as a woman-owned business by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. Ms. Dunner focuses her practice on strategic counseling and enforcement related to a wide variety of trademark, unfair competition, false advertising, copyright, e-commerce and transactional matters. She has testified before the U.S. Congress House of Representatives, Committee on the Judiciary, regarding the U.S. Copyright Office, its function and resources, and she has spoken and written on numerous occasions on trademark and copyright-related issues. Ms. Dunner is currently an ABA IPL Officer, and she is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the ABA IPL’s flagship IP magazine, Landslide. In her pre-law life, Ms. Dunner was a touring professional tennis player.
